Welcome to my academic website! My name is Oğulcan (John) Kalkanli, and I am a Ph.D. student in Humanities at The University of Texas at Dallas.
My research will focus on memory and the aftermath of atrocities as it relates to the study of trauma, war, and genocide. As a scholar of human rights , I wish to analyze the relationship between memory and representation, portrayed in works of literature, particularly in memoirs. Specifically in the area of Holocaust studies, the question of how this event is remembered is continually evolving. While archival material and oral testimonies do exist, my goal is to explain how integrating these two realms of history shape the way we interpret humanity’s darkest chapter as a collective society. Through my work and this platform, I hope to engage fellow academics, and others interested in this field to reflect upon the questions of justice, truth and reconciliation, and human responsibility.
